Why Greater Focus on Girls & Women?

Though a majority of the Kenyan population live under difficult social and economic circumstances, young women and girls especially in the informal settlements and rural areas are very vulnerable. This is mainly because the economic and social hardships they face have a bearing on their overall health and social well-being. A huge percent of these girls and young women have low levels of education and have limited means of earning their livelihood which increases their vulnerability. They enter into marriage life at an early age, some end up in exploitive relationships and face gender based violence. All these factors weaken the overall child upbringing in the society and the vicious cycle of poverty continues in our communities. It is against this background that Beyond Destiny Barriers endeavors to increase and improve their personal, educational, social, economic and legal strengths to ensure they have no limitations on their dreams and no obstacles to their achievements.
