--> BDBF : What We Do

Message from the Founder

I have a passionate desire of telling those wounded by the past, are hurting or feel stuck with deep emotional needs that; “you can dance with broken bones”

My childhood was marred by rejection, emotional abuse and severe maltreatment by my step-father. Chased from home at a young age of fifteen and separated from my then ailing mother, I became a vagabond shifting from one relative to another. When i turned eighteen, my mother succumbed to cervical cancer and my life came to standstill.

Alone, with no place to call home, no one to turn to, my life became increasingly unbearable because it was piled up high with difficulty.

For a long time I battled very low self-esteem, self-rejection, anger, bitterness and rebellion. I lived my life stuck, separated and suffering rejecting from myself because I never felt accepted by those who natured me and importantly people in my life mistreated me, misjudged me, misunderstood me and most betrayed me.

With very many devastating occurrences in my past I was afraid to hope, believe or even accept that anything good could come my way. I disqualified myself of them all and conformed to popular standards due to pressure to protect myself and fit in the society.

I finally hit rock bottom and after contemplating suicide I sort professional help. It has been a journey to my emotional wholeness.

Having been a victim of a bitter past and an over comer of the stigma and emotional pain it causes, my desire to help others in a similar situation inspired me to set up Beyond Destiny Barriers Foundation as my platform to:

  • Promote the creation of a society that believes in the inherent worth and dignity of every individual.

  • Mentor, Motivate and inspire those with a bitter present or past to overcome the stigma and chase their destiny.

  • Support young girls living in difficult social and economic circumstances to reach and maximize their full potential.

To mitigate this BDBF has two main programs:

BUSARA:

A custom made program designed to firstly provide a platform for school going pupils and students especially the girls to share their personal experiences, candidly speak about abuse, addiction, exploitation and other unspoken challenges they face as they navigate school life.

Secondly equips them with essential life success skills that enable them to make positive choices, increase their self-awareness, confidence and resilience skills.

TABASAMU TENA:this initiative is tailor made to address the emotional needs of those wounded by the past who are hurting or feel stuck with deep emotional issues. We inspire them to take emotional stock, get emotionally unstuck and chase their God given dreams.
